Started the day with a movie, Cars 2. We met the Sardonias at the theater, and everyone enjoyed the movie, it was really good. Of course during the pinnacle of the climax Joshua had to go to the bathroom, so in typical fashion I will have to wait until the DVD to see the whole scene I missed. Of course he didn't have to go while watching Mr. Popper's Penguins...no, let's wait for the really good movie, then have to go.
Lunch at Adobo and then to the Layne's house for a leisurely day (everyone knows that's a lie). Overall the kids were good, a few meltdowns here and there, par for the course when they all get together. But, Layne and Joshua were in particular moods. I've said it before, but heaven help Layne's future husband, whoa.
After dinner the adults were still sitting at the table and the kids were done and transitioning outside. Jacob walks in doing this weird arm flapping thing asking for ice cream from the ice cream man, is told no and we chuckle at his arm waving. As Jacob walks back out he says, "Mom you're giving me an angina." What Jennifer heard was "Mom you're giving me a vagina." Jennifer couldn't breathe she was laughing so hard. I'm thinking that phrase will be around for a while, that was a good one. We all got a really good laugh off of that one. We later asked him what an angina was and he told us it was chest pains, which it actually is (I did not know that). The next question was how did he know that word. I thought for sure it was gonna be from one the gazillion books he's read, but no. It was from that wonderful educational show iCarly. Who knew that mindless dribble would induce one thread of information, way to go Carly.
The kids had a load of fun the rest of the day. Layne settled in, Josh got a nap, and Jacob, thank God, was only having angina, not a vagina.

Summer marches on ...
We had a great time this weekend in Nashville. We celebrated mom's 70th birthday with the extended Layne Family. Then later that same day we celebrated Mychelle's 50th birthday with family and friend's of Mychelle's.
Thank you Matthew for spending the whole day on Pool Duty. He was in the pool from shortly after we got there until dinner. The kids had a blast being in the pool. So glad we had good weather.
It was great to see everyone. It has been a while since we have been able to get together.
We ended up getting heavy traffic leaving Murfreesboro and with stopping for lunch / dinner we didn't get home until after 6:00 p.m. Atlanta time. Must continue to try and remember that Joshua does not miss a thing. I do say quite frequently to Jacob "please focus" as he can go on a tangent and he doesn't pick up on anything else. So while we were going home and talking about getting dinner at Fazzoli's, Jacob must have asked 3 times where we were eating. Finally, Joshua had enough, and said "Jacob, Focus!, we are going to Fazzoli's - geesh!".
As soon as we got home Layne and I went to the grocery so we could get ready for lunches and snacks for YMCA camp this week. It absolutely poured while we were in the grocery with very blustery winds but thankfully was over by the time we finished.
Got back home - got all 3 kids bathed, ready for bed - lunches made, snacks made, water bottles ready, lunch bags found. Then got the backpacks ready - change of clothes for each, swimsuits for each and pool towels.
Did okay with drop-off this morning. I was nervous (gee, wonder where Layne gets it from) and Matthew went with us to help with transition.
Jacob and Layne were together so they were fairly easy. Layne was quiet and I got a big hug - but she was helpful this morning and no complaining.
Little bit of anxiety from Joshua, but he knew Ms. Daugherty and Ms. Pippin from our elementary school's Prime Time so that helped a bit. We took him over to one of the activity tables and he was able to get distracted pretty easily.
When I picked them up they were all 3 quiet and looked hot and tired. I finally asked them how it was - and Jacob and Layne both said "boring". They said the only things they did all day was "sit in a field and go canoing once". They both said they did not do anything else.
Joshua said he got to go in the big outdoor pool but he didn't go down the slide because he was "too scared". It sounds like he had fun. He knew 1 other boy and 2 other girls from Primrose, his preschool, but they weren't in his same group.
I think we will just finish out this camp. See if it gets any better. Matthew and Layne are at basketball practice tonight so maybe Matthew will get more information out of Layne when they are together.
They were outside quite a bit. You know they were dirty when Jacob says "I need a shower, I am disgusting". I made him rinse off - rivers of mud running down the drain - and then he could get in the tub. He and Joshua played for a long time.
Okay - hopefully tomorrow is better for camp.

Not Much to Report
Just not much going on today. Had some storms roll through, gave us some rain, cooled things down. Jacob is at Connor's tonight and we'll pick him up tomorrow morning for Bible School. Just kind of a blah day.

Vacation Bible School
This year the theme is "Shake it Up - Where Kids Carry Out God's Recipe". They are having fun.
It is a little bit different for Jacob and Layne this year as they are in a "tween" group. They were really excited that they got to go to the 3rd floor of the church - the Teen area. It really is cool up there. They have a game room with a pool table and ping pong. They have individual classrooms / rooms for all grades 6 through 12th with TVs, couches, learning centers. They are definitely feeling like the "big kids" this year.
Joshua is having a great time in his group. His group leader send a video chat to us by email. He got to "see" her before going on Monday and that really helped. He was singing some of the songs already this evening in the car on the way home.
They had a great day.
VBS from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Grandma picked them up with a picnic lunch for all of them. She even took orders. Jacob had a plain ham sandwich, Layne had turkey and cheese, and Joshua had a cheese sandwich. Not sure what Grandma had today.
They ate their lunch at the park in Duluth with the fountains and they were able to run around in the water with their swimsuits on and be silly.
I guess the sprinkler park wasn't enough, so they came back to Grandma's and then went to the pool, too.
Matthew had to work late tonight and I don't seem to ever be able to leave before 5:00 p.m. so I stopped at Bucca di Beppo and brought dinner for all of us. Matthew had some leftovers when he got home.
Here are the boys last night on the sofa with the iPod Touch. You would think they wouldn't be able to breathe if they weren't able to be near the iPod Touch. It looks like Joshua is asleep - but he is really concentrating on that SpongeBob SquarePants movie.

HOT!
Let's go for two posts in a row....yeahhh...
It is absurdly hot, you just don't feel like doing anything, which is why this post is even more impressive. Actually Layne and I worked on mowing the grass this evening. The temp dropped below 90 around 8 p.m. so we took advantage of it. We only got three laps of the yard done, but we'll finish the rest off tomorrow. This was really mowing the grass, not the, that looks neat let me try for one minute, realize it's work and done. No Layne actually mowed the grass by herself.
All three started Vacation Bible School today and will go all week. They all had a great time. Jacob and Layne got to go to the third floor of the church activity building, only the older kids go to the third floor, so that was a huge deal. They are growing up.

Happy Father's Day
or should I say "Happy Dad's Day"?
I reminded the kids this morning that it was Father's Day.
Layne, of course, was worried that she hadn't made a card, bought a gift, etc. I told her spending time with Dad and being her happy self today would be great!
Jacob was talking back when I reminded him - made for a good lesson in treating your parents.
Joshua ran over and gave Matthew a big hug and it went a little like this:
Joshua: "Happy Father's Day Dad, but I know you aren't my Father"
Matthew: "Thank you. Wait, what?"
Me: choking on the doughnuts we picked up "What, Joshua????"
Joshua: "You aren't my Father you are my DAD!"
Matthew: "Well, that was something interesting to learn on Father's Day"
Good grief! He is very literal that boy. Kindergarten should be interesting.
Happy Father's Day Doug / Grandfather!
Happy Father's Day Matt / Dad!
Happy Father's Day Jack / Papa Jack!
Happy Father's Day Uncle Mark - we miss you!
While we were in Hartford County on Saturday we stopped by Daddy Toot's house. Lots of good memories from this house. Love this picture - we were having fun - and it shows.

Not Much To Report
Well, obviously we haven't blogged in a while, just not much to report. All the kids are doing well in school, Jacob and Joshua are finished with swimming at the Y and Layne is wrapping up soccer, two games left. Jennifer is trying to plan out the summer for the kids, a huge undertaking. We've all just been hanging out.
